According to an article in Huffington Post, "while more than 85 percent of pregnancies are generally considered at low risk for complications, routine maternity care has become increasingly technology intensive and expensive. For example, one in three births in 2011 occurred by cesarean section. The cesarean rate rose nearly 60 percent from 1996 to 2009 without medical indications to explain the increase and cesareans are now the most common in-patient surgery in the country...The U.S. ranks 34th in maternal mortality, 38th in neonatal mortality, 66th in infants with low birth weight."
While these statistics may exist, real change is occurring in modern birthing.
Laboring women are increasing interested in a safe, non-invasive, and therapeutic approach to assist their delicate childbirth journey; one in which they are more consciously engaged and experience a greater bond and partnership with baby as they give birth. This form of conscious birthing allows the mother to receive healthy support and be fully present while quieting the noise of what she was forewarned, by friends, family, the media, about childbirth.
My mission has been and continues to honor this renewed declaration of birthing in safety and love, not fear. As an advocate, the Birth Support Kit and My Loving & Pleasurable Childbirth were conceived as vessels to answer the call for conscious and empowered birthing. Each offers the re-introduction of personal feminine wisdom, power, and pleasure into the birthing experience.
I believe the way we enter into the world determines the quality of our lifetime. Let's create and share a collective belief and projection that shines a healing light on our own births, children's births, mothers' and grandmothers' births, and all present and future births to come.
